Fall is Upon Us

We have had a busy summer this year. Several trips to Campcraft Outdoors to work on various projects while also making time to attend a couple of gatherings. We also traveled to Tennessee to check out Smokey Mountain Knife Works, do some site seeing, and we had a chance to visit a friend and his family.
Now as the summer has come to a close and we start to have shorter days, it is time to shift our focus to preparing for winter. Our main focuses will be on wood processing, checking our food stores, and getting our homestead ready to face the colder temperatures.
Processing firewood has always been one of my favorite activities on the homestead. Everything from being out in the woods dropping the trees, to splitting the wood and then getting it stacked in the shed. We sure do enjoy our hard work in the fall when it is really cold and miserable outside. Nothing like warming yourself up by the flame of a good fire.
Making sure we have plenty of supplies for Miss Patty to keep us fed is another top priority. She will be taking inventory of our pantry and freezers to make sure we have what we need, making a list of what we are low on, and then getting those items located and secured. We have to make sure we have the snacks we need to help us keep warm! (Post was originally written in Fall of 2021)
